Kenny Smith, a Cincinnati, Ohio based singer / songwriter / producer recorded a number of soul and funk sides during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s for labels such as Chess Records, Counterpart Records, Fraternity Records and a number of local labels. Including his own labels Lena Records and Goldspot Records. Go For Your Self, aka Go For Yourself and Go For Your Bad Self, was released on three different labels and all the versions are different. This version, originally released on a local label called Flo-Roe, was the funkiest version and is also the most rare of the three.
